Having a very hard rain right now. VERY hard. Looking out my window at the neighbors back yard across the way - his pet duck is waddling around throwing her head up in the air - she must really be enjoying the rain. She best find some where to light when the wind picks up or all her feathers may blow smooth off. She is strutting - she thinks she is royalty - the queen in a waterfall bath.
My husband and I stayed in Beaumont for both Rita and Ike. Just a few tips: Candles, Trivia Pursuit, a strong Q-beam, and, if you partake, some wine at the height of the storm. I don't know if yah'll have fire ants there, but watch for them in the rising waters. They will find any high spot to climb up on (including you or your dogs). The noise from the winds was the worst part for me; at some point, it seems to never die away, just one continuous keen. Both storms brought tornados and all of the damage I incurred was caused by these, not the actual hurricane winds. Anyway, stay safe and thank you for taking the time to post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, we rode out both Rita and Ike at our home there in Beaumont, as well. And you are so right about the tornados doing more damage than the actual hurricanes. We were also here when Dolly hit just three weeks prior to Ike. Thanks for your thoughts - I'll keep all of this in mind! ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice work here, Denise. Would love to see all the photos you've got. Be safe!
